MPS Announces Back-to-School Information, School Supplies for Start of the School Year
MUSKOGEE, Okla. - Muskogee Public Schools has announced key dates and information regarding the start of the 2022-23 school year. Meet the Teacher events will take place throughout the district on Tuesday, August 16 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The first day of class for all schools is Wednesday, August 17.
School Supplies
MPS will once again provide some school supplies to Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade students who attend a district school. Supply distribution will take place at each school site through the student’s homeroom classroom following the start of the school year.
6th through 12th grade students will each receive the following supplies
- #2 Pencils - 12 count
- Colored Pencils - 12 count
- Dry Erase Markers - 4 count
- Spiral / Composition Notebook - Set of 2
- College Ruled Paper - 1 package
- Folders with Pockets and Brads - Set of 3
- Box of Tissue - 1 package
Kindergarten through 5th grade students will each receive the following supplies.
- #2 Pencils - Package of 12
- Crayons 24 count
- Dry Erase Markers - 6 count
- Glue Sticks - 6 count
- Wide Ruled Notebook Paper - 1 Package
- Folders with Pockets and Brads - Set of 4
- Wipes
Early Childhood Center students will each receive the following supplies.
- Crayola Crayons - 24 count
- Water Colors - 1 package
- Washable Markers - 1 package
- Glue Sticks - 6 count
- Wipes - 1 package
- Kindermat
Classrooms and school sites may have additional school supply needs. Information regarding additional school supplies, schedule pick up, and meet the teacher events will be communicated directly from school site administrators to parents.
MPS Johnson O’Malley Backpack and Supplies Giveaway
Muskogee Public Schools’ Johnson O’Malley students are invited to attend the 2022 JOM Backpack Giveaway at the New Tech building at Alice Robertson on Tuesday, August 9 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday, August 10 from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The event is open to MPS JOM students across all grade levels.
Parents will need to bring their student’s CDIB or Tribal Membership card. Parents will also be required to complete a 506 form and a survey once they arrive. Upon receipt of all three items the student will receive a free backpack.
The Muscogee Creek Nation JOM requires that students must have their own CDIB or Tribal Card. A parent’s card can only be used if that parent has at least 50% blood quantum.
District-Wide Dress Code and Tax Free Weekend
New for the 2022-23 school year, MPS has implemented a district-wide dress code. The dress code standardizes clothing and appearance expectations across all school sites.

Oklahoma’s annual tax-free weekend begins on Friday, August 5 and ends Sunday, August 7. Certain clothing and shoe purchases are exempt from sales tax for this time period only. Qualified items are exempt from state, city, county and local municipality sales taxes.
