Tony Goetz Elementary Named Character.org State School of Character
MUSKOGEE, Okla. - Muskogee Public School’s Tony Goetz Elementary was one of 67 schools nationally recognized as a State School of Character by Character.org, a national advocate and leader for character, Tuesday.
Character.org annually certifies schools and districts at the state level that demonstrate a dedicated focus on character development which has a positive effect on academic achievement, student behavior, and school climate. Tony Goetz Elementary along with the other schools and districts announced today will be considered for Character.org’s highest distinction of National School of Character.
Tony Goetz Elementary was one of three schools in Oklahoma recognized by Character.org. This is the first State School of Character recognition for Tony Goetz Elementary, but did receive two Promising Practices in 2019 and 2020 for its work in character development.
Criteria for selection are based on Character.org’s 11 Principles Framework for Schools: A Guide to Cultivating a Culture of Character which includes providing students with opportunities for moral action, fostering shared leadership, and engaging families and communities as partners in the character-building effort.
The 2022 National Schools of Character will be announced in May 2022 and honored at Character.org’s International Forum next fall.
