MPS Makes Changes to 2020-2021 Instructional Calendar
Launch the media gallery 1 playerMUSKOGEE, Okla. - Muskogee Public Schools announced changes and recommended changes to the instructional calendar for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year Friday.
All district schools will be out on Monday, February 15, 2021 in observance of President’s Day. The day will remain as a half-day for the Muskogee Education Association. Tuesday, Feb. 16 will remain a virtual instruction day with virtual Parent-Teacher conferences being held as well.
The remainder of the week, Wed., Feb. 17 through Fri., Feb. 19, will now be in-person instruction for all brick-and-mortar students.
“These changes are being made or recommended to the board to allow our students to receive in-person instruction as much as possible for the second semester,” said Superintendent Dr. Jarod Mendenhall. “We know the importance of in-person instruction and the positive impact on student learning. We have already utilized many of our virtual days this school year, so I feel it is best to eliminate many of the remaining virtual days and transition to in-person instruction.”
The administration will make a recommendation to the Board of Education during their regular board meeting on Tuesday, February 16, 2021.
That recommendation includes altering the calendar to keep students in-person for every weekday except for Spring Break, held March 15-19, and for three virtual days at the end of the semester on May 24-26. The last day of school will remain Wed., May 26, 2021 with this recommendation.
The district will continue to monitor the COVID-19 data. If a site needs to move to virtual instruction due to increased COVID-19 numbers or related absences, that would be done on a site-by-site basis.
