Whittier Elementary Holding Drive to Benefit Brookdale Memory Facility
MUSKOGEE, Okla. - The ROAD Crew Character Club at Whittier Elementary is sponsoring the Whittier Memory Makers Baby Doll, Stuffed Dog and Cat Drive accepting new, life-like baby dolls, stuffed dogs and cats, and small blankets to benefit residents at Brookdale Memory Facility.
Life-like baby dolls, stuffed dogs and cats will be accepted until Thursday, February 7 at the front office of Whittier Elementary, 1705 Cincinnati Street, before students of the ROAD Crew will deliver items to Brookdale Memory Facility the week of Valentine’s Day.
Individual’s affected by Alzheimer’s can benefit from “doll therapy” as a way to bring back happy memories of early parenthood and help make seniors feel needed and useful. According to Alzheimers.net, “The dolls can become an integral part of a senior’s life, as caring for the doll becomes a major part of their day to day responsibilities.”
Whittier has a long history of serving the community and those affected by Alzheimer’s. Encouraging students to be able to help in a meaningful way and giving back to the community is important to Whittier Elementary. Providing opportunities like the Baby Doll, Stuffed Dog and Cat Drive to students through service learning.
