KJRH Channel 2 Donates Books to Pershing Elementary on National Reading Day
MUSKOGEE, Okla. – KJRH Channel 2 anchor Karen Larsen visited Pershing Elementary School Wednesday on behalf of The E.W. Scripps Company and Scripps Howard Foundation’s celebration of National Reading Day.
Larsen and other members of KJRH Channel 2 presented a check to Principal Karen Watkins towards the purchase of books and presented books to be distributed to every student.
Channel 2, The E.W. Scripps Company, and the Scripps Howard Foundation understand the importance of literacy and reading. Far too many children across the country and within the Muskogee community grow up without a single book of their own.
Studies show children who grow up with books in the home enjoy a substantial advantage over children who do not. Thanks to the generosity of KJRH Channel 2, The E.W. Scripps Company, and the Scripps Howard Foundation, students at Pershing Elementary will have the benefit of owning their own book.
The “If you give a child a book…” campaign is in its third year of existence for Scripps brands and Muskogee’s Pershing Elementary was selected as a recipient this year for $1,000 towards the purchase of books for the school in addition to every student receiving a book of their own.
